The route is divided into Rothaarbahn, Obere Lahntalbahn and Main-Weser-Bahn. Built in 1883 from Cölbe to Bad Laasphe and extended to Erndtebrück in 1889, a continuous connection was created from Marburg to Siegen, which has a positive influence on the development of the region. The operator, the Kurhessenbahn, uses 13 train associations per day on this route, of which 8 serve Erndtebrück.

 Of course there is also work for freight transport. By connecting the Schedetalbahn to the Obere Lahntalbahn, the industrial settlement in Breidenbach is connected to the Main-Weser-Bahn via Marburg. Built in 1872 by the Köln-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, the Wallau-Breidenbach section is still open to rail freight today.
 The Kreuztal-Erndtebrück section was built in 1888 and connected to the Obere Lahntalbahn in 1889. Today there is heavy freight traffic. Passenger traffic has not been forgotten either. The train stations and stops are served by the DB Regio's three-country railway every hour. Due to the numerous hairpin bends and climbs, the section of the Rothaarbahn between Lützel and Hilchenbach is particularly challenging. The topographically created train simulation creates the impression of being on the spot and offers entertainment for many hours.
