The MS86 is an electric trainset of the Belgian railway company NMBS, which was built in the period 1986-1991 by BN Brugge in collaboration with ACEC. It is two-piece and has a steering post on both sides. It can be recognized by the typical headwalls, which have the shape of a diving mask. That is why the MS86 is also called the Diving Goggles. Another nickname is "Sprinter", the MS86 was designed primarily for L-train connections and therefore has a polyester housing that makes the train much lighter and allows it to accelerate faster. Another rare feature of this train is that it has fold-out side mirrors, which allows the train driver to see what is happening on the platform when stationary.
Initially 35 sets of MS86 were ordered, later 35 would follow (MS89), of which only 17 were delivered. The MS86 is almost identical to the MS89 carriages. The MS86 is mainly used on the Brussels S-services S5, S7 and S9 via line 26. They also run on some P-trains.
